Groundbreaking at Gerald Desmond Bridge

January 08, 2013

Work has begun on a $1 billion project to replace the Gerald Desmond Bridge in California. The project, which is expected to generate an average of 3,000 jobs a year during construction, is slated to be completed in 2016. The soon-to-be "second tallest cable-stayed bridge in America" is "not just important to the port and the city -- it’s a structure of national significance. It will be an iconic structure," said Christopher Lytle, executive director of the Port of Long Beach.
