Training & Development

We Make it Happen.

At Shimmick, you will be given the opportunity to learn both field and office engineering.  A thorough knowledge of both is vital to success.  Throughout your career with Shimmick, you will participate in several specialty classes and management training seminars.

During your first years at Shimmick, you will receive the following training:

  • Cost Accounting
  • Scheduling
  • Surveying
  • Formwork/Falsework
  • Shoring
  • Estimating
  • Equipment School

As you progress, you will have the opportunity for additional training including:

  • Leadership Training
  • Contract Administration
  • Project Management

Mentoring Program

Through Shimmick's mentoring program you will gain invaluable insight and direction to help you further your career from experienced Shimmick employees.  Typically within 5 years, Shimmick Project Engineers are estimating, building and managing projects.  The majority of our Project Managers have their Professional Engineering Licenses, and all new Engineers are encouraged to develop knowledge and experience and attain their P.E. designation.

“SCCI hires the best of the best, who then turn around and train their co-workers to be even better. There’s nothing better than a training course taught by a colleague that you respect who is an expert.  The most valuable part of each class is that examples from SCCI jobs are used to illustrate the subject.  Many are from jobs that I have seen or even worked on.  Every time I attend a training course, I am always amazed at the contribution that each of my colleagues makes to the course."

“Shimmick takes a lot of pride in its training program.  Not only are the topics representative of the industry and extremely relevant to our day to day operations, they are also taught by fellow employees and colleagues.”
