As part of the PURE program to upgrade San Diego’s water treatment system, Shimmick was selected by the City of San Diego to build the new North City Pure Water Facility. This facility will utilize advanced technology to purify recycled water, providing a safe and sustainable water supply. The new facility will reduce the City’s dependence on imported water to help ensure water resilience and protect the environment by reducing wastewater discharge into the ocean.
Shimmick is delivering this new state-of-the-art facility to treat San Diego’s recycled water from the North City Water Reclamation Plant. The water, currently used for irrigation, will be treated to purified water standards, making it suitable as a potable water source.
Shimmick will implement ozonation, biological activated carbon filters, membrane filtration, reverse osmosis, and ultra-violet light with advanced oxidation. The new facility will be able to produce up to 30 million gallons per day of purified water.
