San Roque Hydroelectric Project

San Roque Hydroelectric Project

Shimmick provided engineering, procurement, and construction services for the San Roque Hydroelectric project in the remote region of North Luzon in the Philippines. The principal features of this $1.2-billion project included a 650-foot-high earth and rockfill dam — one of Asia’s tallest; a three-unit, 345-megawatt powerhouse; a 452,000 cubic feet per second, gated concrete chute spillway; and 4.5 miles of tunnels and shafts.

Work sprawled over seven square miles and included the construction of all infrastructure facilities necessary to support the project. At peak construction, the labor force reached 5,000 personnel, utilizing a fleet of heavy construction equipment valued at more than $125 million.
